Assembling experience

Fun fact : the QK65 was the first ever custom keyboard GroupBuy I joined ! I wanted to assemble a kit but did not know which one to get first. When I heard people raving about the QK65 I took a look and immediately fell in love with the Lavender colour and sound test I had seen.

Since this was my first GB and Qwertykeys buy I was wondering how the building process would go since it does have more steps than a simpler build like my previous one : the Tofu65. But, once I had received the keyboard I took a look at the building guide and simply went for it. The guide helped a lot to figure out everything a bit better and I got the job done in under 2 hours (switches were already prepped).

Since this was my first build from QK lines I did not know exactly what I wanted to include so I went all in ! PE foam (not my fave), PCB foam (yes please), bottom foam, and longer gasket socks for a harder typing experience. Then I could choose between POM and FR4 so I for once went with POM which I do not regret and topped it off with Nebula switches ! This was actually super easy to build and the different materials and Colors made it a fun experience for me. Oh and stabs are Durock v2 duh !

Overall feedback

Let’s just say I fell in love with this board. To this day the QK65 is one of my top 3 favorite custom keebs of 2022. The Lilac color is on point, the choice in the different foams and materials is really a must and the building process was so easy I recently rebuilt it with Hippo switches and keycaps. The ONLY ick for me would be that it is not compatible with VIA and I cannot change a few keys to the ones I want (don’t have the screen lock key for example). Overall great quality, great sound, no mods needed but could be 10/10 if it was easily compatible with VIA.

If you want to know how this baby sounds, I posted a sound test right here !
